This exclusive and unique edition of our artisan-distilled Elixir d’Anvers, the Elixir d’Anvers Reserve, has been carefully matured for an extended period, in the greatest secrecy, far beyond the duration of the original recipe. Through meticulous aging in strictly selected small oak barrels, a complex evolution of flavors has been achieved, tantalizing the senses and creating a truly unique and limited release.
The production process of Elixir d’Anvers Reserve takes a few years and consists of the following phases
Maceration
The plants and herbs are mixed with pure alcohol and soaked for a long time in a copper pot still, where they release their flavours.
Distillation
During the slow distillation, the copper pot still is heated with steam and the alcohol evaporates, carrying with it all volatile aromas from the ingredients. These fumes condense back into an alcohol distillate or ‘Esprit’, which contains all the aromatic characteristics of the ingredients.
Oak barrel maturation
The ‘Esprit’ is mixed with pure alcohol, soft water, sugar and an infusion of saffron. For this special edition, Elixir d’Anvers is aged in old oak casks for a few years. This adds an intense character and a refined touch of oak wood.
The golden wrapper adds to the allure while the contemporary interpretation
of the oldest known label of Elixir d’Anvers in the distillery’s archives is a nod to its rich history. This new label is drawn by hand and mentions the honorary diploma awarded in 1887 by none other than Louis Pasteur at the World Fair in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
With dozens of plants, herbs, and barks infused into the original 1863 recipe, Elixir d’Anvers Reserve boasts a delicate flavour that dances lightly on the tongue, only to reveal a full-bodied explosion of taste on the palate, followed by a refreshing and spicy finish that lingers long after the last sip.
